Trainees undertake their teaching practices in up to three schools across the
partnership, giving them experience across the primary age range and curriculum. During the first term, trainees undertake a mixture of centre-based lectures and school-based experience, providing them with a solid foundation of theory and practice to put to use during the teaching practices which occur in the spring and summer terms.

The lecture element of the course includes input relating to all of the core and
foundation subjects taught at primary level as well as an “Education studies”
component incorporating a variety of modules such as planning, assessment, how children learn, behaviour management, special educational needs, English as an additional language and more.

The school-based element of the programme begins early in the first term when
trainees are placed in a school where they undertake school-based tasks linked to the lecture programme, complete child studies, observe teaching, work with pupils in groups (and whole classes) and develop their understanding of and commitment to the professional code of the general Teaching Council for England (GTCE). www.gtce.org.uk.

Classroom experience is developed in the subsequent block teaching practices which gradually build whole-class teaching commitment up to 90% or more in preparation for the Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) induction process after qualification.

Nottingham City Primary SCITT is an intensive training programme which requires full time commitment from trainees in a supportive working environment fostered by teaching staff and SCITT management.

On successful completion of the course, through continuous and supportive but
rigorous assessment of all aspects of training, trainees will be awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). This is the accreditation that enables you to teach in
state-maintained and special schools in England and Wales.
